The Florida Building Code introduced
new requirements for asphalt roof
shingles. The FBC references a new
testing standard that promotes roof
products that will withstand higher
wind speeds. These products will
come with documentation that they
meet ASTM D 3161 (modified for
110 mph) or Miami-Dade County PA
107-95. Roof coverings installed
during or prior to 1994 are generally
not compliant with this standard.
You may qualify for this discount if:
1. Your roof was recovered after 2002 to the FBC requirements.
2. The house is located in Miami-Dade or Broward County and your roof was
recovered after 1994 to the 1994 or later edition of the South Florida Building
Code, then your house will likely qualify for roof covering discounts.
